CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION




A. BACKGROUND ISSUES

Major reforms undertaken during the reigns of the emperor Meiji Japan puts Japan as a modern industrial nation that is parallel with the West. Renewal of the so-called Meiji Restoration took effect on Japan's political direction.

As a country located in Asia, Indonesia also became the target of the Japanese occupation. To achieve that goal, the Japanese build the fraternity in Asia. In industrialized countries, Japan desperately needed raw materials for industry.

In addition to these factors, sentiment against Western imperialism in Asia helped push Japan to immediately occupied by the Dutch-controlled Indonesia. After mastering Indonesia, Japan intends to stem the influence of Western imperialism in Asia.

What is the purpose of the Japanese occupation in Indonesia?
How does the Japanese Government in Indonesia?
Any efforts the Government of Japan captured the heart of the Indonesian people to want to help Japan?

a. Sumatra under the Land Force (Army Soldiers XXV), based in Bukittinggi.
b. Wilayaha Java under the Land Force (Army Soldiers XVI), based in Jakarta.
c. Kalimantan, Sulawesi and the Moluccas under Navy (Southern Armada II), based in Makassar.
Governments in all three areas was led by army chief of staff / fleet as Gunseikan (head of military government) and his office called Gunseikanbu. Due to shortage of government, the Japanese were forced to lift people of Indonesia to occupy high office.

Japanese government efforts to captivate the nation Indonesia would help Japan to make war with the European imeralis by:
